Show Me, Tell Me Driving Test Questions

Example Show Me, Tell Me Driving Test Questions

Part of your practical driving test you will be asked the ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ questions (also known as the Vehicle Safety Questions) as set by the DVSA. On this page, you will find the questions and answers and we will soon be uploading a video to help with your learning.

How the show me tell me questions work?
The examiner will ask you one “tell me” question at the start of the driving test before you start driving, where you’d have to explain how you’d carry out a safety task related to the car.

You’ll also be asked one “show me” question where you’d have to show them how you’d carry out a safety task while you’re driving. The show me question could be asked at any time during your driving test, including during the independent driving part. If you’re unsure how to do it when driving the test then the examiner will ask you to pull up on the left when it’s safe and convenient and ask you to find the control.

How will you be marked and what happen’s if I get both questions Wrong?
If you answer both questions incorrectly, you will receive just the one minor driver fault.

Remember, whilst you answer the show me question it’s important you do it safely as the car will be moving and you don’t want to cause danger and get a serious fault and fail your test.

For example say the examiner asks you the following question “When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d set the rear demister?” It would be very easy if you are unfamiliar with the car to turn on the full beam lights on, as some cars which could blind another road user, or you could accidentally put the direction indicators on, or even lose control of the steering under the pressure. If the examiner believes you have affected other road users in a serious or dangerous way then they could mark you down for a serious fault.

Remember, the examiner will always say “When safe to do so” so if you are going round a bend or a hazardous area then think twice before performing the show me question straight away.
